Mahatir in Court?

The Malaysian Mirror reports that Dr Mahathir Mohamad the former prime minister was asked if he would testify in court over the Port Klang Free Zone (PKFZ) fiasco, and he said he was willing to testify, if summoned. The case has generated huge public interest, especially with former transport minister Dr Ling Liong Sik being charged for cheating the Government

“If a person is required to testify in court, he must do it. He cannot say ‘I don’t want’,” he told reporters.
However, he stressed that  “a prime minister could not be (held) responsible to the thing that he does not know”.

AHA!!! Therein lies the crux of the matter. The last time he was put on the stand on the Lingam case, the crafty old fox just said “I don’t remember.”  Repeatedly. This time it’s going to be “I don’t know.”  Yeah right.  The whole PKFZ episode smells of an UMNO-MCA deal to “you scratch my back and I’ll scratch yours.” So why do we want to waste time, give the guy media attention, and make everyone else look like a fool, when at the end all he’s going to say in court is “I don’t know.” Repeatedly.  Hey, the report already says that he “stressed that a prime minister could not be held responsible to the things that he does not know.” Case closed.

A prime minister is responsible for anything that happens under his watch – even things that he does not know but should have known!! In the old days it would have been the honorable thing to own up.
